Last Monday, June 28, during a studio meeting, the board of Het Stripschap ‘coincidentally’ came by to surprise the artists. This year Jan, Dick and Rob will receive the P. Hans Frankfurtherprijs for Special Merits. An independent committee led by Cok Jouvenaar has nominated the studio for this important comic prize and the board of Het Stripschap is happy to accept the nomination.
The Stripschapjaarprijs, also known as Stripschapsningen, has been awarded annually since 1981 for exceptional achievements or extraordinarily commendable initiatives in the field of Dutch cartoons. They can be awarded to illustrators, copywriters, colorists, translators, publishers or persons or institutions that have performed an exceptional performance in the field of comics. This year, the committee and Het Stripschap award the prize to the artists of Studio Jan van Haasteren: Jan, Rob and Dick. The official award ceremony will take place later this year.
